The coalfield workforce
Can we transition from coal and still have jobs? Miners and others weigh in.

Lignite Worker
I hope we can. I worked for a "lignite/soft coal" plant for 5 years and had to quit my job because I got sick. I got sick from the chemicals they put on the lignite. YES YES we need to transition from "coal/lignite" to other good alternate ways to make electricity. They did at least put plastic down before they put the slurry in, those poor people in Virginia didn't get that. OMGosh I was shocked to see how they mined that land and left the retetion ponds just open. How can that run off water be good to drink or bath in or even was your clothes or dishes. I need to get my butt in gear and get involved since I worked in it I have first hand knowledge because I worked in it. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CLEAN COAL, period.

Synthetic Gypsum
Synthetic Gypsum (Calcium Sulfate)a by-product of the coal fired power plant scrubbers. Many of these gypsum companies are attempting to sell them selves as "green" companies. Hard to imagine a by-product of the mountaintop removal mining process as being "green". Mountaintop removal doesn't seem very "green".
